February 2008

This was an amazing experience. We snorkeled with Humpback Whales which breed in Samana Bay from February-April. The interactions between the mother and calf show their bond.

India Safari at Kanha and Bandhavgahr Parks

Nov/Dec. 2011

Seeing Bengal tigers in their natural environment was a trip of a lifetime. The parks in India are controlled by the government, so jeeps could not communicate by walkie talkie and off-road travel is not permitted. Tigers are found by hearing alarm calls from their prey (ex., spotted deer, Sambar deer), or other animals like monkeys or peacocks.

Taj Mahal and Agar Fort

Nov/Dec.2011

The Taj Mahal in Agra was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife. It was built 1632-1653 with marble, beautiful carvings and inlaid patterns of precious stones. Unfortunately the Shah's son took over his rule and was put under house arrest in Agra Fort so he could never visit the tomb again. He was buried there next to his third wife. Wikipedia has a good write-up on the Taj Mahal.

Whale Sharks of Cancun

June 2014

These sharks (the largest fish in the ocean growing up to 43 feet) migrate to the ocean around Cancun and Isla Muerjes in search of plankton. I watched as the fish took a gulp and saw its gills work to extract the water. You can see smaller fish (remoras and a baby shark) hang out with these large fish for food and protection.

Maldives Diving, Hermit Crabs and Bats

November 2011

We only made 4 dives off of Kandooma due to strong currents. I've included video of hermit crabs who lived under the plants next to our room patio. The flying foxes were large bats we saw during the day and they do look like foxes.

Red Sea Diving 2006, Pt. 1

November 2006

We were on a liveaboard in the Red Sea, which allowed us to go far south by Syria. Since this area is more pristine, there were more fish. The soft corals were beautiful.

Red Sea Diving 2006, Pt. 2

November 2006

More of the Red Sea.

Hawaii Diving- Kona, Big Island and Maui

Sept. 2007 & 2010

I couldn't believe our divemaster in Maui let 2 cleaning shrimp clean his teeth! It was also our first time seeing a dolphin pod underwater, and a first for a scorpion fish. We also saw manta ray, octopus (one came out of his hole),turtles and of course, moray eels.

Manataees in Crystal Springs, FL

We had a wonderful time snorkeling with these curious and affectionate creatures. They love to get their tummies scratched!

Turks and Caicos

November 2012

I was thrilled as the nurse shark circled around me and headed for the wall to get some lunch. The curious barracuda was a big surprise!
